The Bahá’í Writings

"Immerse yourselves in the ocean of My words..."

The Baha’i Writings, contain rich guidance for the spiritual life of the individual as well as the foundations for a peaceful and just global civilisation, worthy of the maturity of the human race. They are authored by the four Central Figures of the Bahá’í Faith as well as the Universal House of Justice. The Bahá’í Reference Library is the authoritative online source of Bahá’í writings.

Bahá’u’lláh

Baha’u’llah’s revelation from God is recorded in His many divinely-inspired books, tablets, epistles and prayers, which if compiled, would constitute more than 100 volumes.

One of the earliest and much-loved works is The Hidden Words, a collection of short verses which provide guidance for developing spiritual wellbeing. Among the best-known verses are:

“O Friend! In the garden of thy heart plant naught by the rose of love.”
“Say: O brethren! Let deeds, not words, be your adorning.”
“O My Servant! Free thyself from the fetters of this world, and loose thy soul from the prison of self. Seize thy chance, for it will come to thee no more.”

Baha’u’llah revealed many prayers, which can be used to develop one’s spiritual life.

Intone, O My servant, the verses of God that have been received by thee, as intoned by them who have drawn nigh unto Him, that the sweetness of thy melody may kindle thine own soul, and attract the hearts of all men. Whoso reciteth, in the privacy of his chamber, the verses revealed by God, the scattering angels of the Almighty shall scatter abroad the fragrance of the words uttered by his mouth, and shall cause the heart of every righteous man to throb. Though he may, at first, remain unaware of its effect, yet the virtue of the grace vouchsafed unto him must needs sooner or later exercise its influence upon his soul. Thus have the mysteries of the Revelation of God been decreed by virtue of the Will of Him Who is the Source of power and wisdom.

The Báb

The Bahá’í Writings also include a collection of excerpts from prayers, books and Tablets revealed by the Báb.

I adjure Thee by Thy might, O my God! Let no harm beset me in times of tests, and in moments of heedlessness guide my steps aright through Thine inspiration. Thou art God, potent art Thou to do what Thou desirest. No one can withstand Thy Will or thwart Thy Purpose.
